What really caught my eye was the doodle from California. At first, I thought it showed women wearing flouncy colorful skirts. But no! It’s 5 members of a family who are all knitting blankets!! The piece is titled, My Close-Knit Family.
I have no idea who submitted this artistic gem, but here’s what he/she wrote about her inspiration for the doodle…
My Close-Knit Family—My close-knit family embraces each other's creativity in everything we do. Every morning, every afternoon, every night, we come together to share our lives and connect with our single thread of love. Just like the coziness of the blankets we knit, my family brings each other the warmth and love that supports all creativity, and that is my inspiration. (California, 10-12 Grade Group)
The theme of the contest was, “What inspires you?” Many of the young artists attributed their inspiration to their families and/or friends. Here are just two of the other doodles that caught my eye…

Foodies—I get inspired by cooking and spending time with my family. I always learn something new when I walk into the kitchen. Eating together is our time to relax, bond and share ideas as we enjoy homemade food as a family. (North Carolina, 8-9 Grade Group)
I encourage you to take a few minutes out of your day to check out these creative kids’ doodles. The 53 images posted online represent the State and Territory Winners (from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam). From May 7th until May 18th at 12:00am PDT, you can vote for your favorite five (5) doodles (one from each age group). From the five National Finalists, a panel of Google executives will choose one National Winner, who’s name will be announced in the first week of June.
As you know, Izzy Knits is based in Orange County, CA, so we’ll be voting for California’s entry for sure. It’s not only from our home state, but it features a family knitting blankets! What’s cooler than that?! Click here to vote for My Close-Knit Family (Grades 10-12).
