Just like you, we love our local yarn shop. Why? Because, when we go there, we get to feel the wonderful softness of the yarns and revel in the vibrant hand-dyed colorways lining the walls. We have the opportunity to ask questions of the knowledgeable sales staff or have them introduce us to exciting new products. And we become inspired by the projects in-progress on other crafters’ needles and hooks, in addition to the samples displayed on racks and walls. What’s not to love?!
As a husband and wife team launching our own yarn business, we refer to Izzy Knits a virtual local yarn shop. We’re just a phone call or an email away if you have questions, and we’ve implemented several practices that engender online shopping success, including yarn/pattern matching, coordinated color collections, and a generous return policy. Soon, we’ll be adding swatch samples to our offering, so you can actually touch and see our yarns before you buy!
Knowing whether two colors will coordinate or not is one of my biggest challenges when buying yarn online, and it can be particularly challenging when looking at variegated hand-dyed yarns. That’s why we’ve gone to great lengths to ensure that every one of our yarns coordinates with at least one or more other yarns within any line we carry. In many cases, we’ve kitted our yarns together or we offer recommendations by way of “color collections” which are visible as product photos.
Zen Yarn Garden’s Art Walk Series is a perfect example of color pairing. To ensure that you can find complementary colors for those wonderful two-skein projects, we asked Zen to make us a “splatter” version of each colorway so you can confidently pair the splatter with its full-color counterpart.
In the case of Leading Men’s Show Stealer Fingering, we spent hours curating a collection of colors that work well together in multiple combinations from more than 170 available colorways! When I placed my order, there were a couple of colors that, on my screen looked perfect, but I thought might be too orange or too blue in real life to match, so I asked Steve to confirm [and to my delight, he wrote back, “I think this looks great! I need to hire you to do more color pairings for us!!”]. You can do this too.
Don’t hesitate to contact us if you’re unsure about a color or texture or pairing. We’re happy to describe any of our products to you and give you our best advice. To reach us, call (800) 231-0154 or send us an email.
