Steel Drum Ornaments - Embossed Hearts

These handcrafted heart ornaments are made by artisans in Haiti from steel drum scraps.

Each 2.5" heart (available in two styles) comes in a silver organza drawstring bag perfect for gift-giving at Christmas or Valentine's Day... or whenever you just want to share a little love with someone special! Each includes twine for hanging.

To clean, simply wipe with dry cloth.

THE ARTISTIC PROCESS
How does a 55-gallon oil drum become a decorative piece of art? First the oil residue must be burned off by lighting a fire in the drum with banana leaves or rags. Once cooled, makers cut the drum open and climb inside, using their entire bodies to flatten the steel into metal canvases. Then, talented artists draw free-form designs and work their magic with peen ball hammers. Finishing touches might include a simple sheen or colorful paint. Often, the artist will leave a signature mark, either tapped into the metal or with a special paint swirl. Each piece is an original artwork steeped in the traditions of Haitian culture.
